Q: Hi, Considering the lack of sunshine in our basement, we are considering a subdued yellow paint for the walls. But how about the finish? Is Satin the best finish for a basement? Should the ceiling be the same color as the walls or white? Is there a special type of paint for basement walls? Thanks

A: Thank you for your submission. Lighter colors tend to make rooms brighter as well as appear larger, and a shade of white is typically selected as the paint color for ceilings. For walls, we recommend an eggshell paint which will be easy to maintain and clean. For interior basement doors and trim, we suggest using a semi-gloss white paint, and for your ceiling, we suggest using a flat white.
